Breed History
The Belgian Malinois originated in the city of Malines, Belgium, in the late 1800s. Developed as a herding breed, they were one of four varieties of Belgian Shepherd dogs that emerged from selective breeding programs focused on creating versatile working dogs.
During World War I and II, the breed gained recognition for their exceptional service as messenger dogs, Red Cross dogs, and guard dogs. Their intelligence, trainability, and courage under fire made them invaluable to military operations.
